In Loving Memory of James Boyd IV
Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late James Boyd III and Olivia Cox.
A beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on February 15, 2025. James lived a full and vibrant life, touched by his passions, his community, and his family. He was Preceded in death by his father, James Boyd III, and his sister Elexus Givens.
James was known for his larger-than-life presence and his deep love for those around him. His family meant the world to him, and he would proudly take visitors on what he lovingly referred to as the famous "World Tour," showing them all around the town of Ware Shoals, a place he called home with such pride.
A master plumber and successful business owner, James built a legacy of hard work, dedication, and service to others. James was the first black plumber to work for Mathis Plumbing in Greenwood, SC. His leadership was also evident in his commitment to doing outreach , having led and organized a march to address gun violence and advocate for the safety of youth.
Back in DC In his free time, James enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including his love for camping, bowling, and going to the go-go’s.
He loved to stunt driving around blasting his music, wearing the latest fashions, and fanning money in the club. You can bet that every weekend he would have a house full of kids taking them on the craziest adventures.
After relocating to Ware Shoals which he referred to as “the farm” you could find James hanging out at the barbershop.
James loved his family, praising God, Giving the longest motivational speeches , singing, dancing, telling jokes, cooking steak and shrimp, and listening Frankie Beverly.
James was a man who lived life with an energy and a heart that left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. His memory will live on in the stories we share.
James leaves to cherish his loving memories, his mother, Olivia Cox of the home; his wife, Alice Boyd, of Oxon Hill, Maryland; two daughters, Jhania Boyd, of Donalds, South Carolina and Emane Boyd, of Temple Hills, Maryland; four grandchildren, Grayson Bean, Jayce Bean, Journiee Mansel and August Mansel; four brothers, Chris Hogan, of Springlake, North Carolina, Douglas Tyler, of Port Orange, Florida, Andre Hogan, of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Larry Hogan; one sister, Georgia Boyd, Alexandria, Virginia; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will miss him dearly.
