James Samuel Dodson Jr.

James Samuel Dodson Jr., 82, of 2714 Nation Road, Hodges, SC, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC.

James was born in Abbeville County to the late James Samuel Dodson Sr. and Willie Reed McGee.

James was a millworker and truck driver earlier in his career. He was later employed by Torrington where he retired as a security guard.

In 1974, James decided to make his journey home from Chicago, Illinois to South Carolina where he would live out the rest of his life.

James became a member of Forksville Baptist Church in Ware Shoals, SC where he became a Deacon. He was also a Steward of Mt. Lebanon AME Church in Donalds, SC. He was also a faithful member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Crosshill, SC.

James leaves to cherish his fond memories wife, Agnes Suber of the home; three sons, Bishop Emmanuel Spearman, Hodges, SC, Maurice Dodson, Joliet, Illinois and David (Deborah) Suber, Anderson, SC; two daughters, Margaret (Bernard) Towns, Ware Shoals, SC and Mattie (David) Pratt, Honea Path, SC; a sister, Emmaline M. McNeal, Chicago, Illinois; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Evangelist Barbara Ann Dodson; two sons, Eugene Suber and Kenneth Suber; one daughter, Mary Walker; one brother, Arthur Dodson Sr.; and two sisters, Sally Mae Hicks and Mary Elizabeth Dodson.

The family is at the home.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church located at 296 S. Church St., Crosshill, SC.

The body will be placed in the church at 1pm. 

Visitation will begin 12pm-8pm Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home.
