James Albert “Hut” Mays, 74, of 2727 Highway 283, Plum Branch, SC, entered into eternal life on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Greenwood Rehabilitation Hospital in Greenwood, SC.
Born in Donalds, SC, he was the son of the late Jimmy and Mary Frances Roman Mays.
James worked in Greenwood Mills and construction for a private company for many years until he retired.
When James entered the room, you were always greeted with that big smile and unique one of a kind laugh of his. During his visits, you knew that you were going to get a good tear jerking joke, a story about the old days, and a good piece of real advice to take with you and adhere to day by day. James never met a stranger. I can assure you that if you were having a bad day and James came around, you would be sure to have a better one by the time he left.
James was truly one of a kind and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Viola Mays; one son, Jimmy Lee Mays; and one brother, Nathaniel "Petey Pie" Mays.
Memories of his life will be cherished by his son, Dywane Moses, of Abbeville, SC; seven daughters, Angela Mays, of Iva, SC, Pamela (Tony) Minyard, of Plum Branch, SC, Kimmie Mays, of Due West, SC, Tajuana Spearman, of Due West, SC, Sonya Gray, of Anderson, SC, Yolanda Mays, of Greenwood, SC and Latasha Mays, of Greenwood, SC; one brother, John Mays, of Ware Shoals, SC; three sisters, Margaret (Freddie) Robinson, of Honea Path, SC, Olivia (Leslie) White, of Anderson, SC, and Betty Brenson, of Ware Shoals, SC; twenty-seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a special friend, Lucille Starks; and a host of many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
