Melrose Jenise Welch Brownlee

Melrose Welch Brownlee, age 61, of Ware Shoals, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood, SC, on Sunday, May 11, 2025.

Born in Greenwood on December 10, 1963, Melrose was the beloved daughter of the late Agest Welch and Barbara Welch. She was a proud 1982 graduate of Ware Shoals High School, where she was known for her academic excellence, her spirited participation in the student body, and as a valued member of the cheerleading squad. In pursuit of lifelong learning, she later earned a degree in Business Administration from Piedmont Technical College in 2014.

Melrose accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Dunn Creek Baptist Church in Ware Shoals, where she remained a member throughout her life.

A dedicated support staff member, Melrose worked for 14 years within the Ware Shoals, Laurens, and Greenwood School Districts. Fondly known as “Mama Melrose” by her students, she brought warmth, guidance, and encouragement into countless young lives. She also served the community through her job at the Burton Center in Ware Shoals. She was also employed at Pro Towel in Abbeville, South Carolina.

Deeply rooted in her community, Melrose continued the connection with her high school classmates and friends alike. She was widely admired for her compassionate heart and her talent for poetic expression. Her favorite color was pink — a reflection of the vibrant, nurturing spirit she shared with the world.

Melrose leaves to cherish her memory her son, William Sentell Brownlee (Greenville, SC); her granddaughter, Jasmine T. Brownlee (Clinton, SC); her brother, Freddy Welch (Midlothian, VA); her sister, Bonnie Welch-Graham (Greenwood, SC); and a host of devoted relatives and friends near and far.

She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for her kind spirit, creativity, and love for her family and community.

The family and friends of Ms. Melrose Welch-Brownlee invite you to join in a heartfelt celebration of her life. To honor her memory, a Balloon and Bubbles Release will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in the parking lot of MagicTyme Wings & Waffles, followed immediately by a fellowship dinner and short memorial service.

This gathering is a time for friends, loved ones, and community members to come together, share memories, express condolences, and reflect on the life and legacy of Melrose, who touched many with her kindness and spirit.
