Melvin Jenkins, 71, of 911 Nation Road, Hodges, SC, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 at his home.
Born in Hodges, SC, he was the son of the late R.H. Jenkins and Doris Jennings Jenkins.
After Melvin graduated high school, he served in the army and became a Vietnam Veteran. After his deployment, he was employed by Riegel Mills as a textile worker.
Melvin was a faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church located in Hodges, SC. He held a number of positions within the church including, member of the Good Hope Baptist Church Brotherhood, Trustee Board, Food Pantry Ministry, Church Van Transportation Ministry, and Youth Mentor Ministry. Melvin also held the position as the past president for the Brotherhood within the Little River Baptist Association.
Melvin enjoyed football and was an avid fan of the Gamecocks and Pittsburg Steelers.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, two aunts, Julia Sheard, Hodges, SC, and Ruth Thompson, Belton, SC; four cousins, Rev. Mark (Amelia) Sheard, Hodges, SC, James Thompson, Columbia, SC, Yvette Jennings, Charlotte, NC, and Kimberly (Melvin) Moore, Ware Shoals, SC; a god-daughter, Crystal Posley-Morton, Greenwood, SC; a special friend, Lana Meekings; and a host of family and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be held 11am Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Robinson-Walker Funeral Service.
